I can't believe anyone is actually going to support you, tbh. It boils down to this: Without hackers like you, Sony wouldn't have this certifiable mess on their hands. YOU CAUSED THIS MESS. Sony now has to struggle in the fight against piracy, which exists due to your efforts. It's cut and dry, and I hope you lose the case.
I'm all for allowing people to tinker with what they've purchased. Distributing it throughout the internet and spreading the word while knowing pirates are your main customers is irresponsible.

Here comes my answer: (I guess) Sony is not taking ways to prevent it because she wants to stop the production of games for PS2 and people will buy the PS3 and it will have a lot of money (we are talking about billions of millions of dollars)

@Eric. You are obviously NOT a coder. If you were, you would be able to look at the source code, see what it does, and know *without question* that george's code does NOT in ANY WAY enable anyone to run a pirated copy of a PS3 disc.

No matter what you say, Hotz played a large role in implementing what is now a platform for piracy. In and of itself, this should be allowable. On the flipside, distributing it irresponsibly while knowing the inevitable consequences(piracy) and then proceeding to act completely innocent is total BS. An adult should be held responsible for the conscious decisions they make, and this situation is no different.
He is not the victim, he is the a perpetrator. If he hadn't released his finds to the masses, I would be on his side. He did, though, and has acted untouchable, arrogant, and innocent while slinging mud at Sony.
Lets cut the BS and stop pretending academic integrity is at stake.

That's bull crap. Playing with your stuff and SHARING how you play with your stuff is part of the grand tradition. Sony tried to use a technical tactic to solve a legal/cultural problem for them, but that didn't work. All Hotz did was post the results of solving a (complicated) math problem. If Sony's business model can't stand that sort of free speech truth, they need to fix their model.

I cannot believe how deluded some people have become. Long story short, an honest person would not have done the same as Hotz knowing the repercussions for the industry.
All of you need to take a step back from the technicalities in order to see things more clearly. Any possibilities opened up by the actions of Hotz are insignificant at best. Most household computers are more than capable of identical possibilities, except for one: Playing PS3 games for free. That is the only UNIQUE reason to distribute his work.

You seem to keep attributing george's work to piracy on the PS3. Are you seriously this misinformed?
Piracy on the PS3 was enabled *months before* george released his stuff, by a chinese company selling a device made specifically for this purpose.
george did not have anything to do with this.
Subsequently, this commercial dongle was reverse-engineered and a free implementation was made for the purpose of allowing you to install software that was written for the PS3 with non-sony tools. However, it didn't allow the 'Backup Loader' application that was previously released to actually work anymore.
George, again, had nothing to do with any of that, either.
I am curious as to *why* you believe otherwise, given that the actual, known facts clearly indicate that you are wrong. Do you have some other information?

Ah but it does matter. The fact that the pirating software was released before Geohotz exploit means it would've existed whether george posted the exploit or not. So you are going to blame someone for something that would've happened either way? When someone takes a product and uses it outside of it's intended use, you can't blame the person that created it, you blame the person that used it.

Too many people jump into an argument knowing they are "right". It causes a wall to be put up that rejects all new information. If you're going to argue about this, you need to be open to information people bring up instead of just arguing repeatedly against the things while ignoring all the rest of the valid counter arguments.
@Eric, obviously you care enough about the subject to post repeatedly here. Please take some time to do some research, the information is out there. Don't just read what Sony says as gospel and ignore Hotz claims as blasphemy. Read them both and everything in between, let it sink it. Then make a decision. Arguing is pointless without the willingness to accept new information into your concept of Right.

Fair enough you went down a different route to get the other OS option back. You found the root key but surely you knew that posting the root key online would enable others to start releasing patches and custom softwares to enable piracy and other means of cheating.
If anything i support what your doing, but i wish sony just apologises. If they asked you to work for them in designing security for their devices... Would you?
The problem is the people who abuse the PS3 root code and pirate stuff. Geohot never intended to support piracy instead wanted people to create the world's greatest software for the PS3 unlike Sony who removed the OtherOS feature. Sony sued the wrong guy. It's just like the Apple Jailbreaking case where some people jailbreak because of the ability to install free pirated AppStore apps ignoring the Cydia app on the springboard instead of helping and becoming great unofficial App developers and do things such as add Android to the iPhone etc. People always blame great geeks/hackers that just want to create software for everyone to use and improve the innovation. This also shows what is actually happening to the world: Apple patented iPhone Spyware, unknown hacker claimed that the all the data sensed to the Sony servers are unencrypted and that Sony spies on you and already know that you own a HP flatscreen 1080x1920 pixel monitor, Apple does not allow inApp purchases unless they get their "fair share"
