Yeah unhackable ps3 lol. Ok so they are going to spend even more money they shouldn't then entice all hackers to give it a go, even ones that normally wouldn't but can't refuse a challenge. I feel perhaps with some hardware changes they will also use some kind of software that if and when it detects some unusual activity it will autobrick itself. Being the electronics giant they are, they know nothing is unhackable so it's odd they would even attempt it... and to spend the money they could focus on later products is just really odd behavior. I also feel that their race to the courtrooms is born by some kind of insecurity they feel about infrigements on their part being discovered. The whole situation is just odd and because of their actions will cost the company a good portion of the profits they would otherwise be receiving. Oh well I'm looking forward to purely playing pc games and paying companies for products I believe in, like ati/amd...etc. Perhaps if there is ever a shortage of ps3's in the EU I'll sell my ps3 for a good amount to someone there.

The algorithm sony uses signs public key blue ray games for the ps3s with a unique private key was faulty. Instead of generating a random number, they used a constant (in this case 4) which allows hackers to create a program that runs the algorithm in reverse until they get a key that would create every single public key. Since they didnt successfully implement the algorithm, what would have taken X^9 (years) amount of time to figure out, now only takes perhaps a week for a computer to calculate.

If i do i would guess sony were lazy to not even move put them on a different location.
The LV2 Pub 3.56 is all i got but i will crack this before you.
Im saying george i give you props for what you did and how you stood up and said : I own this console not sony i bought it.
Legal Advice:
If i were you i would bring PSJailbreak up.
Ask questions that why did they not do anything when PSJailbreak team never has been even talked to for thier illegal action's.
They reply (They never released our private key's this is against the DMCA)
Well they activated piracy & illegal emulators.

Man fight for our right's and im glad you are showing what other people are scared to even try.

@rogerdodger91 thats the 2nd part of getting the keys, the first part is exploiting the loader, which fail0verflow did by... well I'm not sure I should put that here, but they did reveal how they exploited lv2ldr in their presentation. I wonder if it would be illegal to point out how to get the key rather than actually posting. Does Sony hold the rights to the Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm? Probably not I'm guessing. It's a flaw in it's hardware implementation that allows you to literally use "fairly simple" algebra to reverse it.

Now that I think of it, Sony's war on piracy never ever brought them anything good. They managed to keep the ps3 pirate-proof for a good 3 years and so what? They sell less hardware and "software" than ps2, xbox 360, wii, all of which are wide open to piracy.

I'd like to see him or anyone do this for the trial... just to smash Sony's face in it... and prove the PS3 is nothing more than a cheap PC built around a RISC CPU. Really that's all it is...

Take the Firmware, customize it down, and turn it into a simple BIOS/CMOS like a PC's does and then program in a Linux installation to the HDD to act as a fully update capable and maintainable software based replacement for the XrossBar for file, game save, and other device management. Have it run on the Hypervisor with full hardware acceleration and capabilities.

@vuno C++ would definitely be the best direction as with C++ or even C for that matter the programming language can be transferable across any OS and platform.

Still I'd like to see a software based jailbreak like Half-Byte Loader arrive for the Official Firmware to perform actions like OtherOS loading and maybe even properly and accurately done software based support of Playstation 1 and Playstation 2 games.

Hey George IF Sony does offer to settle give them this list of demands or else don't settle, or else add this in the countersuit:

1. OtherOS must be restored and the Hypervisor unlocked for Linux and X11/OpenGL.

2. All future PS3s sold must contain the GS+EE hardware for backwards compatibility with PS1 & 2 software, and all current sold and/or marketed PS3s must be recalled to receive a replacement model with hardware based compatibility restored.

3. An official SDK for homebrew developers must be released by Sony that not only allows applications to be coded for the PS3, but must allow access by the software to the Hypervisor for hardware acceleration benefits from the Nvidia RSX GPU, but must also maintain DRM and anti-piracy regulations.

4. The PS3 must continually be supported and produced as well as all features listed above for at least 5 years post-date of verdict/settlement on an official basis.

5. The PS3 can not be altered in anyway by design or production that removes any previously listed above or said features from the system.

6. Sony must issue a public media release apology to all users as well as a public apology to all persons they have brought legal action against and excuse themselves from any further legal issues against current non-piracy homebrew, system development, and system analysis based efforts and offer restitution from $750,000 or 750,000€ up to $1,500,000 or 1,500,000€ to any wrongfully accused persons or groups affected by this ruling that was ruled liable in previous cases and said cases must be overturned, withdrawn, dismissed, or reconciled without prejudice.

7. Sony must pay $5,000,000 to charities of their choice to promote scholarships, student grants, and other educational funding for advanced education in technical fields.

And that's just a good start from my lil' ol' brain...

George: an honest question that hopefully you'll answer.

Quote 1 from 2.25.11 = "The PS3 is hacked forever and Sony can't do anything but fire away at scapegoats."

Quote 2 from 2.23.11 = "Now if only Sony knew how to patch to make 3.56 non decryptable, the cheater problem could be easily fixed platform wide."

Now those are both direct copy/paste quotes from you and they seem to directly contradict each other. So which is it?

my guess, protection has to expose a means for the protection to work, thus anything that uses the key has it, it is in the pup file just after the header in raw hex (oh, no, now sony has a reason to sue because I have a brain and know how to use it and know how to hack sonic games) and yes all versions of the firmware pup files have it, otherwise the pup would be declined because it is unsigned. I discovered this myself by checking a key against a pup and found the byte sequence in it in plain sight. just use xvi32 to find it ya fools!

I can get you the 3.56 key any time I want to, but I won't because I am against the 3.56 update completely and would be for a complete removal of playstation network because psn is now officially crap and because I hate firmware 3.56, I will only give the key if more than 75% of you all are stuck on that firmware without a means to downgrade, as many of you as possible stay with 3.55 or below, people stop using psn, and that it is not used to pirate games, if anyone uses it for that, the next firmware will not be hacked by me, period, you will be on your own.

Someone should build a CFW from the ground up that has zero trace of any sort of Sony code. I'm not sure this is possible, but it's our system. I could turn my HP laptop into a hackintosh, why not a PS3?

I should write a disclaimer on this post saying that anyone who reads it is required to give me $20. That way when people refuse to do so, I can take them to court because my EULA said you had to if you read the secret code word you instantly agree to such terms. (The code word is 'Marowak', btw. Sony in big trouble with LG
Sony's shipments of PlayStation 3 consoles to Europe, now impounded by customs. An ongoing dispute with technology firm LG is the cause.
These are busy days for Sony now. Ever since the Japanese game company decided to sue the Korean technology company LG in December last year on a number of patents in LG's mobile phones are the dark clouds piled up.
Serious consequences
LG decided namely to respond with its own atmosphere, in effect, four patents that they believe that Sony bypassed in the development of Blu-Ray player included in all PlayStation 3 consoles.
Something which has got some very serious consequences. LG has won a preliminary injunction, which means that all PlayStation 3 consoles shipped to Europe in the next few weeks stopped at customs, according to The Guardian.
The brackets may be destroyed
Tens of thousands of consoles were confiscated last week in the Netherlands, where a large part of Sony's products are shipped before being passed on into Europe. Usually, importing over 100 000 Sony PlayStation 3 in the week. The consoles that are out there in stores are considered to last for two to three weeks. Sony struggling desperately to get the court order is suspended from the European Patent Office. LG has a chance to get it extended.
About LG wins his goal will Sony have to pay damages for all the PlayStation 3 consoles already sold, which could mean billions of dollars. Another possible measure is that the consoles that customs confiscated destroyed.

If I know what I was doing I'd be right next to ya cause I believe when I buy something I can do whatever whenever I want with it and to it. Personally I'll never buy another Sony product even when you do win this suit. This has gone leaps and bounds to far, LG please dry fuck them till their kids eyes bleed and then some they are asking for it

I fully support George and his quest. Screw Sony for trying to reign as tyrants. You don't hear about Honda suing a Honda fanboy putting a turbo on his "whip" and telling everybody in cyberspace how he did it, do you? How about someone that has a (97ish Honda that puts an ECU from an older year in their car? It modifies the whole system and yeilds positive results right? He did what he did because he paid for certain things on the console that Sony decided to take back. That's lime me selling you a 4x4 bronco only.to tell you months later I am taking the front axle because it is hard to maintain and, well the motor too. You can keep the battery.

@Brian you shouldn't be looking for the 3.56 private keys, you can't calculate the new ones (Yes they did fix their signing app and do use a real random number now), you shouldn't even be looking at the ecdsa checking code, that one is secure, it's always been.

Too bad I didn't think of this earlier. I remember reading about an alleged application like this that would boost page counts and rankings by simulating unique visitors. I wonder how many can be from North Dakota, St Kitts or even Alaska? Any ideas on what size the unique visitor IP address buffers are? I wonder if the only visitors saved were from Sony servers. Hmm, buffers.

If anything, that means SONY LEAKED THEIR OWN CODE! If I read the law correctly, that means SONY can't sue George anymore for their own stupidity! They'd get laughed out of the courtroom with this evidence, and sadly Twitter has logs that George's lawyer could subpoena and prove it real. Case would be thrown out on a technicality of conflict of interest.

@clcancellation : 3.60 is hackable but it will likely take 4 years like the 1st jailbreak of the ps3. not only has sony put major security on it, getting rid of the loaders, but on top of that they're suing the major hackers. have you noticed that no one's been able to jailbreak 3.56 so far ? what will happen is that the ps3 hacking scene will be dying a slow death.

btw geohot is not the only hacker. actually he shamelessly took credit for failoverflow's work when he released the root key (he had better not when we see that sony is suing him LOLLLL)

Stick to the line that you have never accepted the EULA and you should be safe and sound. Whatever you have done with the hardware or software, you have no agreement with them to NOT do anything. As the key is baked, it doesn't matter what version firmware was on it, so you could still be on 1.0. It wasn't a smart move to post too much information, but this is the information age. It is not the information that ruines markets for companies, it is the people that use it (as said: if you are responsible for people to misuse the information you provided, then Sony is responsible for giving you the means to do so, ie. selling the darn thing).

First they fight to say it is a computer then decided to fight the other way when they change their mind and their original assertion affects their bottom dollar in the wrong way.

So which is it Sony?

The UK courts decided the PS2 was not a computer because it wasn't "freely programmable". The PS3 was long asserted by Sony as computer from it's early days. Now they use more ambiguous terms like, "It only does everything." Well currently it doesn't do Linux.

This is like Sony arguing a truck is no longer a truck because they stole they bed off the once's they sold when it was clearly sold as a truck. Carrying things in the bed may not have been the primary purpose (that is driving it from place to place), but I bet truck owners would be angry if one of the big three issued a mandatory recall of the truck beds or a loss of their warranty.

"I can now do whatever I want with the system. It's like I've got an awesome new power - I'm just not sure how to wield it."

Dude I love what you rode on the coattails of others to accomplish, but I can't back how you went about doing it. You wanted the name and the fame and now that's exactly what you're getting. The same way you made the rap songs and went on tv to claim you just made them mad. You could have just used your skill to make an anonymous message board post. All these people who come up with this way and that way to prove Sony is evil, if I was at Sony I would have done the exact same thing.

I wish you best of luck, but your ego is what put you in this hole, I'm all down for the homebrew and whatnot but seriously where is the linux on my PS3? You claimed it was for linux but all I can find is pirated games and hacks, forgive me for my ignorance but I have yet to see any good out of your actions.

Damn....looks like sony changed the SSL cert bypass in 3.60. This just went active, this morning, shortly after the Home update. Those who were using FuckPSN or the 3.60 Spoofer or any DNS trick will see that you can no longer access PSN. I figured people might be freaking out, right about now. Sit tight...a new bypass is around the corner. Here's the link for details: http://psgroove.com/content.php?898-Sony-Performs-Maintenance-on-PSN-Devastating-Effects-to-CFW-Users

Seriously look at this page, if you ever look at this blog or these comments, look at the people that praise your work. Do you think honestly that this whole down with the evil company is warranted? I mean they are all whaaaaaaaa whaaaa my hacked PS3 can't get online to play my pirated games.

The guy above me ran here all hey look peoples they blocked us, we can't get online, and not one mention of my Linux Distro stopped working. And people are supposed to feel sorry for you and give you money, what a silly world we live in.

choice quotes:

"im soooo sick of these ASSES saying CFW users shouldnt be online.not everyone can afford a game let alone another ******g system.**** THAT i bought my system the day of the release i can do what i want to it. and you think since you have 2 systems your above evryone else BULLSH*T you are apart of the problem not the solution just cause u get another ps3 you think its okay to have a hacked system you are a MORON.and wow you dont download pirated games but you still backup games pretty much same thing. instead of downloading from internet you just rent it and back up your still illegally using the game.

"Indeed, people should know they have no right to be on PSN when they're on cfw, yet they follow geohot like lemmings and claim how bad Sony is and how they won't never ever buy a Sony product again, ignorants.

Yes maybe you can go on psn with cfw(for a while), but for how long? How long till Sony fixes it? This is gonna be cat and mouse game, I dont have time for that sh!t. Also, I dont wanna risk my level 13 account getting banned

I got 2 PS3's lol, they're right next to each other, one has Killzone 3 in it, the other has 50GB's full of roms. Last playing game: Chrono Trigger"

and my favorite:

"I can understand wanting psn for netflix or something but for gaming...come on...To be honest I'd rather have the custom firmware for...my ummm.....backups....yea that...backups. besides that I dont care too much, i'll just hook up my tv to my computer and watch netflix like that. No biggie."

Yup just as he said no biggie.

Obviously noone here cares what you think, pedro. Furthermore, there has been plenty of "non-pirating" homebrew packages and apps released from FTP servers, media players, coldboot installers, package installers, ID changers and even file managers. Not everyone's a pirate or an online cheater, dipshit. Oh and BTW...we DO have Linux back. Graf Chokolo has been working on the kernels and Team Asbestos brought us the "BootOS" linux installer. We can now install our own linux distros, again. No thanks to Sony. Heres the link: http://psgroove.com/content.php?812-BootOS-2.01-AKA-AsbestOS-v2.01-(Installer)-Released
PS - Since were quoting people, now...heres my personal fave, from Geohot.
"We built your PS3. We built this world. We are not mindless consumers. It is us with the brains and curiosity, not you with the guns, jails, suits, titles, and dollars. And the truth is, if all of you disappeared tomorrow, the world would continue on fine." -Geohot ^_^

So, other than coming here and providing us with your insignificant rants and opinions against Geohot and his work...what more do you seek? Do you really think we care about YOU or Sony, or their TOS or those BS laws? Do you really think your BS opinions are gonna carry some weight and implicate some kind of moral effect in MY house, or anyone elses? Sure, sony has the right to kick us off their network. But in turn, we reserve the right to continue to bypass their restrictions, untill we develop a more "permanent" way of staying online. The homebrew community has done NOTHING to jeopardise anyones gaming experience on PSN. That BS with Black Ops wasnt Geohot...blame the cheaters, not the hackers. I have a hacked ps3. Do I belong on PSN? Thats a personal choice. I believe I do. Unless youre cheating online, or pirating then a hacked ps3 online, does NO HARM to the community. Youre just being a hater, pedro. And noone likes a hater. ^_^

Thank you so much for that link Snake I was trying really hard to find some good in his "hard work". Only issue is now is that the pirates out number the legit homebrew users. And I don't hate his (george hotz)ego is what got him here in the first place, there is no denying that.

Also I find all the internet gangstas that keep the most noise didn't even donate to his cause they just hopped on to pirate. If you thought I came here looking to "hate" you're wrong as a average user I can't see nothing but piracy. What you legit users need to do is bring the good to the front and push all the bad further back. Otherwise the general public as a whole will see you as nothing but a bunch of broke pirates and that is fact.

It's not just sony. You will find this type of irrational behavior in ALL "big time" multi billion dollar corporations. Microsoft, apple, sony, nintendo, wal-mart, etc...these companies only care about one thing, same thing they have ALWAYS cared about....Money and profit. As long as theyre making money, and a profit off of you and me, they could care less about our consumer rights or any other right for that matter. We the people, have had the collective power to put these businesses under...if enough of us would just boycott their products and services. Pfffffft, yeah right! We all talk about it, but noone ever does it. Fact is, our society has become entirely dependant and spoiled on these businesses and establishments, as well as their "oh-so-cool" products. This is not just seen in the business world, but all around us, in government, politics and religion. These people have all the power and all the cards....and WE give it to em. Maybe one day, we will learn to be more independant and do things for ourselves, instead of turning to "big brother" every time we feel insecure in this country. Untill then, might as well just deal with the BS.

Whats funny is companies that released the true blue and cobra dongles are getting paid for releasing products that pretty much do what you've done to the ps3... only you released the key at no cost so other devs could release homebrew and bring linux back to ps3.. i should have stayed at 3.55 but updated and refuse to get a dongle, i rather wait
