i talked to this guy at this local gameshop, and i asked him about the psn outrage and he said it was gonna be online on may 4th or 5th, then i said sony is a terrible company and he defended them like wtf, and i told him about the otheros, backwards compatibilty and the jailbreak scene.
and he said that it was to expensive to maintain backwards compatibility, otheros, and to allow the jailbreak scene to continue.
and the he said thats why the ps3 dropped from $600 to $200
i replied with i would have paid 300 for other os backwards compatibilty and to jailbreak
i told him sony treats their consumers terrible and he disagreed
i left and decided i wasnt gonna buy from them again
The jailbreak scene is 100% free to maintain. It's stopping it that costs money...
No, I don't have a damn 3.60 CFW, nor do I have any desire to make one. Homebrew and Linux work fine on 3.55, 3.60 support is only desired by pirates and cheaters. The only legit reason is being stuck on 3.60, and it's probable a 3.60 CFW would have to install over 3.55 anyway.

I have always loved amazon for reasons like this example here. Between their obvious "I get it" attitude and really quite good customer service, they get my business time and time again.

I'm pretty certain, contractually, when purchasing a product you are entitled to a fully functional item excepting items that require extra fees (which must be clearly stated at point of purchase). Therefore if someone wished to return a product because functionality had been remove by the vendor they are entitled to a full refund (proof of purchase must be provided). In the uk these are the legal obligations of retailers and suppliers to protect consumers from fraud, poor quality, misrepresentation or economic loss. The sale of goods is subject to the inclusion of these statutory rights (or terms), As Sony misrepresented you statutory rights have been breached. I emplore you all to pack up you ps3 and march on down to where you bought if armed with the correct document (doesn't have to be a till receipt, a credit card statement will suffice) and stamp your feet until you get a 100% refund.

The reason Amazon did a write-up and explained everything was because they care more about their customers than Sony does. They knew the server outage hit a lot of people and they worked around the clock to restore service, whereas Sony doesn't seem to know what to say, what they should do, or who to blame. A company shouldn't be silent when millions of credit cards and other personal information could have be stolen (or silent when any major issue occurs that involves them).
Sony is just sitting in a puddle of its own public relations failure right now. Sure, they'll still have their oblivious sheeple customers, but people who are smart will realize you shouldn't even bother with their products anymore.

He's under an injunction and helping people tamper with their consoles would put him in contempt of court and he would at a bare minimum get fined 10k a pop by Sony.
Unless you have 10k to pay for his trouble I'd let it go.
Additionally, there is a thing known as the tort of intentional interference with contractual relations. There is a binding settlement in effect and if you go trying to tempt Geohot into breaking it you'll find Sony suing you for meddling.

A truly great security system is one everyone knows the workings of, yet still cannot circumvent them or cause access for whatever they're trying for to be granted. Security by obscurity might work for the time being, but if someone manages to discover how it all really works (again), the house of cards might well fall again, so to speak.
(If Sony had bothered to actually use a random seed for its encryption just as described by the spec they used, it would at least have been a better system than the one they currently had. But they incorrectly applied a good security system, turning it into a bad one. Of course, you'd never blame them for that -- by your previous posts you're a very pro-corporate person -- but I'm just saying.)

Anyways, what I mean is that Amazon had an error in their service, a glitch/bug, whichever you prefer (unless I am misreading their release). The PSN was that the hacker got past the security, so lets call the Security, Program 1 (P1), and the network itself, that can operate without security in a perfect world P2. So if P1 is bypassed, they now have access to P2, unlike Amazon where their P1 was fine, it was their P2 that had a fault.
If the security is unknown AND well made, you basically have the PS3 pre-failoverflow and George. Think about this, if the security was not hacked before George released those codes, could one not warrant Sony's actions against George?
Additionally, I do not blame Sony's corporate leaders, since they are business majors, not tech, but instead their security programmers. Since the CEO's only have a fragmented understanding of anything but business, for which they are all quite adequate at. (During the press conference it was the tech people explaining the intrusion, not Hirai).
Though, before I continue, please explain the hash system, so far it seems a good bit more complex than an encryption.

I have have a 360 that I've had going on 3 yrs. (One laser adjustment, was out of warranty, did it myself) and that has been it. Never had the RRoD. Also, while you keep it "clean" do you also: A)Give it adequate air space and B) Turn it off when not using it.
I got an elite that iv had for two years and it runs fine, my ps3 is giving me issues, it won't play gran turismo 5 and has a clicking when loading blu ray discs, I had geohots cfw, kmeaw's and some hybrid but now I'm on 3.65, btw I got all 5 haves for free from Sony from the welcome back program, we have 3 accounts at my house so we were able to download all of them, I already owned lbp and infamous but still

I don't kno the 1st thing about hacking (wish I did, its an amazing talent :-/), but I do kno that what you do w/ your own system should most definitely not be criminal, especially if it doesn't affect everyone else (other than pirated stuff, thats your own risk). I really admire you for not bowing down when you were confronted by the pressure and instead decided to fight. Against a giant like Sony, many wouldn't have been so bold. 1) Pay him a good million dollars or more.

And since the people in the best position to change things for the better are also the very ones most benefitting from the way things are, nothing will change.
